MV Week II – Day 7

It only took me three weeks to finish this week. If only real life worked that way. This one’s just for fun. Not musically the greatest Stones song, but still one of my faves. Miss You.

It’s only been 11 months since the last Music Video Week, but what the hell.

I’ve loved this song for some time now, but only recently found out that it’s sung by a frontman, not a frontwoman. Which hurts a little. In my head, a Heartless Bastards-esque woman sang this little song that uses laundry as its driving metaphor for, of course, heartbreak. It’s different to imagine a man singing it, but no less good.

Cold War Kids – “Hang Me Up to Dry”

Update: Who knew my blog was so popular that a little post would have youtube embedding disabled on this one. (Note: kidding.) Google the song, or watch an unoffical youtube. It’s worth it.

I have to get Rihanna off the top of my blog.

It’s been a nice week off. And by nice I mean busy. First, I’d like to thank Veace for voting for Rihanna twice on my video of the week poll, causing the vid to tie for first place. And since I voted for Beirut, and kb voted for his girl Jenny, that leaves three votes unaccounted for. Out of principle I’m disqualifying Rihanna, so the winner is CYHSY! I know you were dying for an analysis of the results.

Since last week, school began. After a year in the “real world,” I saw I couldn’t hack it and came crawling back to student status. Here’s the book list for the quarter:

  • Essentials of Adobe Captivate 2
  • The Elements of User Experience
  • Macromedia Dreamweaver 8 Visual Quickstart Guide
  • Macromedia Flash 8 “
  • Don’t Make Me Think!

It’s a whole new Coral. I’ll be so web-geeked out in a few weeks that you won’t recognize me anymore.

MV Week: Final Day

Allow me a moment of self-congratulations here: I “blogged” every day for one week. Finally, a goal I met.

All posts from the last week are music videos–that I like–made within the last year. Well, except Feist on a bus. That’s not really a video. But it’s good. For the final post, I give you the winner of the VMA for not only Best Video, but also Best Single.

Rihanna’s “Umbrella”

Now, can someone please explain how this is the best video? Much less the best song; the sentiments expressed recall me to a time when my biggest concern was with whom to share my best friends’ necklace. I did watch the VMAs back then, though. But really–what’s the deal? This isn’t even a fun pop/hip hop song. It sucks! But what a moneymaker! As you see, I couldn’t find a video on youtube without the Cover Girl introduction. And check this out: a line of Totes umbrellas. Ugh.

This was fun. Expect it again. Any suggestions for blog-a-day weeks? I’ll try books, soon. Maybe.

**Now: watch them all and vote for your favorite in the poll on the right sidebar!**

MV Week: Day Six

Almost there. It’s much easier to blog every day when all you have to do is paste some code.

I just love this.

MV Week: Day Five

I thought about posting the video of Britney’s performance at the VMAs last night, but it’s not that interesting, really–just bad. It looks like I put on a bad wig and tried to play pop star: kinda flabby, self-conscious, no moves. Except I could probably lip-synch better. It’s on youtube, if anyone’s dying to see a burnt-out (and possibly high) twenty-something.

Here’s better pop:

MV Week: Day Two

Okay, so everybody is talking about Amy Winehouse–mostly about what and how many drugs she consumes, etc.–but her voice is great. My fave Wino tune is “F- Me Pumps,” but since I’m trying (and it’s hard, ya’ll) to stick to songs/videos released in the last year, here’s “Tears Dry on Their Own.”

Note: There’s an unintentional theme happening here…
